Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas, dreams of what lies beyond the rainbow. One day, a tornado sweeps her away to Munchkin land. Celebrated as a heroine by the Munchkins, Dorothy wishes to return home and seeks help from the Witch of the North, Glinda.
Glinda advises her to seek the great Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City. Dorothy sets off with three companions: the Scarecrow, seeking a brain; the Tinman, wanting a heart; and the Cowardly Lion, desiring courage. The Wicked Witch of the West tries to stop them, but they reach the Wizard. He demands they kill the Witch first. After succeeding, they receive their wishes, and the Wizard returns Dorothy to Kansas.
